Creating A Culture Of Feedback For Your Team

“Everyone wants more feedback” might be the biggest lie we’ve sold to ourselves. No one really wants actual ‘feedback’. What your employees really want is for you to tell them their rock stars, so if that’s the feedback you are about to deliver, go for it! In fact, I’ll take a second helping of that ‘rock star’ feedback! If you’re about to tell me how I suck, well, heck, I really don’t want to hear that!

That’s our dilemma. We want to provide meaningful feedback. We want to have a culture of feedback, but our employees aren’t really ready for what is about to happen! I believe your culture of feedback starts during recruitment. This is where a feedback culture is born. When you deliver great feedback in an interview, and let the candidate know it won’t stop there but to expect non-stop critical feedback everyday they work for you, now that person will be ready for feedback, both positive and constructive.

A culture of feedback just doesn’t arrive one day like a new baby. It grows over time, little by little, until one day it’s all you know.
