Conference Highlights Talent Management Best Practices and Honors Customer Successes in Strategy, Implementation and Bottom Line Results
Ottawa, ON – September 30, 2011 – Creating a top-performing workforce that drives higher returns and offers a sustainable competitive advantage was a key focus at Halogen Software’s sixth Annual User Conference, the company’s largest user conference to date. Hundreds of customers from around the world joined the company in Atlanta September 18-20 to network and learn from Halogen, industry experts and their peers, how to leverage and extend their Halogen Software solutions for maximum results.
The User Conference featured keynote presentations by HR thought leaders Cathy Missildine-Martin, Principal and Co-Founder of Intellectual Capital Consulting, and Lizz Pellet, Chief Cultural Officer of EMERGE International. In her keynote, Missildine-Martin shared how HR plays five key roles in translating business strategy into workforce needs and how HR can link people with profits. Pellett’s keynote was an interactive discussion where attendees volunteered their career sites for a real-time review of how well they align their employment brand to their organizational culture.
“The keynotes by Cathy and Lizz were full of valuable insights,” said Scott Chase, Manager, Human Capital, INTTRA, Inc. and one of seven Halogen customers who led educational sessions at the conference. “To be strategic, HR professionals need to understand their organization’s business and develop HR strategies to support it. Cathy and Lizz offered concrete examples on how to lead the strategic process and how to cultivate a corporate culture that attracts and retains top talent. ”
The conference also featured: a pre-conference Job Description Boot Camp, led by industry expert Dr. Gordon Medlock of HRIZONS; a post-conference boot camp on succession planning, led by succession planning author and thought-leader Dr. William Rothwell; and a healthcare track that included sessions on competency assessment best practices and peer review best practices, led by Donna Wright and Gen Guanci of Creative Health Care Management respectively.
Rave reviews also went to the HR blogger panel featuring Kris Dunn, Mike Haberman, Chris Havrilla and Cathy Missildine-Martin who debated strategies for nurturing top talent. The seven customer-led presentationshighlighting how clients across all industries are achieving better business results using Halogen’s solutions were also well received.
“One of the key reasons I attended this conference is to learn and share best practices with my peers,” said Gina Maddalena, HR Systems Specialist, MD Physicians Services, Inc. “We’re all using Halogen to drive strategy and improve business results in our organizations and this conference provides a wonderful opportunity to share our practical experience with one another. It’s what makes coming to the User Conference so worthwhile and is why I’m already looking forward to next year’s conference.”
At the conference Halogen customers O’Sullivan Creel, L-3 Fuzing and Ordinance Systems and St. Camillus Heath Center were recognized with the annual Halogen Bright Lights Awards for their unique achievements using Halogen Software solutions. These awards recognize Halogen Software customers for achievement in three areas: measuring return on investment, outstanding implementation, and corporate culture.
The Halogen Bright Lights Awards were presented during a special ceremony held at the Customer Appreciation Party on September 19th:
- O’Sullivan Creel received the Bright Bottom Line award in recognition of the return on investment and improved metrics they’ve been able to measure as a result of implementing Halogen, including saving more than 400 billable hours annually, reduced turnover, increased engagement and improved goal alignment. With Halogen, O’Sullivan Creel has established a culture of performance that contributes to measurable business results.
- L-3 Fuzing & Ordnance Systems was the recipient of the Dazzling Implementation award for revamping its Talent Management processes, configuring and implementing the entire Halogen Suite of products for employees across three locations in just one year. Using Halogen Job Description Builder™ as the foundation, the rollout included extensive training with a focus on creating a job description-based process that would support development, compensation and succession planning.
- St. Camillus Health Center Inc. received the 2011 Brilliant Corporate Culture award for its success driving employee engagement and creating an organization that is focused on achieving the campus' mission and goals. The organization modernized its approach to talent management after 15 years with an antiquated system – creating a culture change of accountability and motivating its multi-generational workforce to put greater focus on their own ongoing performance and development.
“The conference was educational and a lot of fun, and my team returned to the office fully charged and ready to implement the valuable information we learned,” said Genevieve Daniels, Organizational Development Manager, St. Camillus. “From the first session to the closing keynote, every minute was valuable. We were particularly honored to receive a Bright Lights award in recognition for our organization’s talent management successes.”
Attendees also had fun for a good cause; building on the tradition of creative fundraising in support of charitable organizations that help the world’s most vulnerable. This year attendees wrote poems related to human resources, talent management and their partnership with Halogen. These limericks helped raise thousands of dollars in support of Save the Children’s emergency relief efforts to feed children in the Horn of Africa.
