At Halogen Software, Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is much more than volunteering and giving back to the community –it’s about making business decisions that improve corporate performance and contribute to a better world. We work hard to ensure the larger community benefits from our success.
Employees Lead the Way
We're proud of the many programs already in place at Halogen such as charitable support, fiscally responsible operations, health & safety programs, recycling programs, etc. But we're always working to take it to the next level. To support that effort, we’ve put together a committee of employees who are passionate about CSR to help us raise awareness of CSR practices, promote our current efforts internally and externally, and help drive new programs and ideas to strengthen our efforts in this area.
Charitable Works
Each year, we invite our employees to submit suggestions and then vote for the 3 main charities we will support that year. While this doesn't limit our charitable activities, it helps to give them focus.
We're always open to employee suggestions, and we try to keep things fun and engaging.
- We held a week long Thanksgiving food drive and setup a competition to see which employee group would donate the most food. We created "food trains" in each area to put the contributions on display and provided daily reports of the total number of items and money contributed. One creative employee sold off a pair of NHL hockey tickets and donated the proceeds to the food drive. Employees and their families donated their time to sort and transport to the food.
- At Christmas, we raffled off prizes to help raise money for the purchase of portable DVD players for sick kids at a local children's hospital.
- Instead of decorating their office cubicles for our annual Christmas cube decorating contest, one department donated the money they would have spent on decorations to a local soup kitchen/shelter.
- Employees, supported by a corporate matching program, donated generously to the Red Cross Haiti Relief Fund.
- Employees elected to support a local family dealing with the financial burden of a severe spinal injury.
- We held a used book drive to help fill the library shelves of one of our local schools.
- We regularly enter corporate teams in local volleyball, running/walking/cycling, and dragon boat charity fundraisers.
And we try to extend our reach beyond our employees, to include their families and even our customers.
- At our 2009 Annual User Conference, customers created artwork in exchange for donations towards the purchase of renewable light sources to child-led families in Rwanda through Global Giving. During conference breaks, attendees took the opportunity to paint small canvases, which are displayed in Halogen’s headquarters, and for each canvas painted, Halogen donated funds to this worthy cause.

Wherever we can, we're working to reduce our environmental footprint.
- We take care to dispose of used electronic equipment (computers, cell phones, printers, etc.) in a responsible way and are exploring new opportunities for extending their use by donating them to charities and educational programs in need.
- Our growing office recycling program currently diverts paper, plastic, glass and metal materials from our landfills.
- Our products are demonstrated and sold using web meetings, which means fewer people travelling on planes - helping the environment.
