Building a Top-Performing Workforce Key Focus at Sixth Annual Halogen User Conference

Mid-September in Atlanta, Georgia provided a splendid backdrop to a gathering of hundreds of HR professionals at the 2011 Halogen User Conference.

Over the three day event, attendees from seven countries representing more than 180 companies soaked in more than 25 educational sessions, two engaging keynote speeches, a dynamic blogger panel session, two informative boot camps and a myriad of pre and post-conference training sessions.

Keynotes bookended the event, including Cathy Missildine-Martin’s opening address that showed us how HR’s 5 unique roles in driving talent management and business strategy; and Lizz Pellet’s closing address that put conference attendee career websites through their paces in front of a live audience, illustrating how an employment brand is a direct reflection of an organization's culture.

Halogen customers from INTTRA, Franciscan Alliance, Purdue University, L-3 Fuzing and Ordnance, St. Anthony’s Medical Center, University of Wisconsin Credit Union and Basic American Foods shared their talent management experiences in great breakout sessions. And customers flocked to meet Halogen experts to explore product demonstrations along with partner resource stations manned by HRIZONS and Creative Heath Care Management.

Pre and post-show bootcamps were lead by Dr. Gordon Medlock of HRIZONS who explored the benefits of standardizing and streamlining job descriptions, and Dr. William Rothwell of Rothwell and Associates whose session showed us the best practices in practical succession planning.

Halogen’s annual customer appreciation night was held at Opera Atlanta, Atlanta's premier private events and nightlife destination, where the annual Bright Lights Awards were presented. Category winners included:

  • Bright Bottom Line Award
Presented to O’Sullivan Creel in recognition of their demonstrated return on investment with Halogen. O’Sullivan Creel saved hundreds of billable hours annually, reducing employee turnover and increasing engagement, and realized improvements in goal alignment. They’ve established a culture of performance that contributes to measurable business results on a daily basis.
  • Dazzling Implementation Award
Presented to L-3 Fuzing & Ordnance Systems for its talent management process revamp, which included a complete implementation of Halogen’s talent management suite spanning three locations in just one year. With Halogen Job Description Builder at its foundation, L-3’s rollout included extensive training with a focus on creating a job description-based process to support employee development, compensation and succession planning.
  • Brilliant Corporate Culture Award
Presented to St. Camillus Health Center Inc. for its success in driving employee engagement and creating an organization focused on achieving the campus’ mission and goals. St. Camillus modernized its approach to talent management, created a culture of change and accountability, motivating its multi-generational workforce to focus on performance and development.

And finally, one of the all-time conference highlights to date came when Halogen customers showed their creative side in support of Save the Children. Customers were asked to put pen to paper and face to the video screen to craft poems related to human resources, talent management, and their partnership with Halogen. More than 100 customer couplets helped raise thousands of dollars to help feed children in the Horn of Africa.
