Healthcare Providers Automating Employee Performance Management at Record Rate

Halogen Software Reports 80 Percent Rise in Demand for eAppraisal Healthcare to Meet Compliance Requirements and Attract New Staff

OTTAWA, Canada – November 30, 2005 – A growing number of healthcare institutions are realizing the benefits of automating time-intensive human resource processes and are choosing Halogen Software for their Web-based employee performance management solutions, the company announced today. In one year, Halogen experienced an 80 percent increase in the number of Healthcare institutions buying its eAppraisal for Healthcare; in the last quarter alone, the company added 14 new healthcare customers, exceeding industry growth predications.

The mounds of paperwork required to comply with accreditation and regulation requirements and the increasingly competitive hiring environment are driving healthcare facilities to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of their employee performance appraisal systems.

Several case studies have shown that automation can substantially reduce the level of effort and running around required by hospitals. In one case study, Phoenix Children's Hospital[1] explained how they were able to reduce the time managers needed to draft an evaluation by more than 50 percent. In addition, Phoenix promoted the benefits of a fair and regular employee performance management process to attract top talent, including nursing, imaging and pharmacology professionals. "Drafting an evaluation used to take an hour; it now takes between 20 and 30 minutes," said Steve Youngdahl, Project Manager at Phoenix Children's Hospital. "For directors that have over 150 direct reports, the time saved in this part of the process alone is enormous. I estimate that we are able to save the hospital at least $40,000 each review cycle."

In other case studies, Howard Regional Health System[2] realized a 164 per cent return on its investment in the first three years of using an automated appraisal solution. Mount Sinai Hospital[3] also describes how they use eAppraisal Healthcare to complement their balanced scorecard approach. Managers use the system to track compliance and generate detailed reports, as well as to help employees better understand the institution's vision and how it relates to individual performance and accountability.
