OTTAWA-April 3, 2001-After seven long months of battling cybersquatters and trademark issues, Manta Corporation has announced their eSurvey software division has landed a new name: Halogen Software™. Halogen now looks forward to presenting their leading-edge eSurvey solution, and their new identity to a global audience.
"We knew from the outset that changing an established company name was going to be difficult," says Donna Ronayne, Vice-President of Marketing at Halogen. "However, we didn't anticipate the obstacles surrounding domain name registration. I am sure with well over 30 million registered domain names out there, finding a suitable domain has become a time-consuming challenge for everyone."
Hundreds of names were developed, but lack of internal agreement, domain name issues and trade-mark concerns rendered many of the front-running names unusable. Along the way the company had several names that they were really excited about, but cybersquatters were asking for up to $100,000 USD in certain cases for their release.
Why the new name? "Several years ago Manta Corporation, a well known Lotus Notes Consulting company, developed an eSurvey software package and our organization split into two distinct business streams: consulting services and software products," says Paul Loucks, President of Halogen Software. "As the two divisions pursued different markets, different personalities of each side began to emerge. We wanted a new name for the energy, creativity and bright ideas that became the signature of the product side. Halogen is both symbolic of this and memorable, so we couldn't be happier."
Over the next year Halogen will work diligently to brand this new name. At the same time, they will continue to provide premiere eSurvey products and services to clients such as Hewlett-Packard, Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines, Whirlpool, and a host of other Fortune 500 companies. Halogen has also renamed mantaINSIGHT to Halogen eSurveyor to reflect the change.
