Earlier this week I read a post from William Rothwell, a leading succession planning expert, The Role of Executive Coaching in Talent Management and Succession Planning, which shared some interesting insights.

Last month I read a great post over at the brand new TLNT.com blog, called The Case for Coaching. The post was authored by Paul J. Gorrell and John Hoover and was excerpted from the book The Coaching Connection – A Manager’s Guide to Developing Individual Potential in the Context of the Organization.

Now that 2010 is half over, it’s a natural time to check in on where you are with your HR programs. As HR professionals, there are a number of areas where you rely on managers and employees to execute on an ongoing basis. And while you may track the process periodically, summer is a great time to check in with how activities are going, in particular employee coaching and learning activities.

Last week I read an article over at Forbes.com about how women should be helping other women climb the career ladder. While the article by Carol Hymowitz discussed how women can and are mentoring other women in Fortune 500 organizations, a few things really resonated with me.

Periodically, I come across yet another article calling for the “death” of the performance appraisal. I am starting to look at these sort of like the recent spate of death hoaxes on Twitter; they get a lot of media play, but there’s not a lot of credibility.
