Want to know the secret to employee retention?
Almost all the current research says employers need to:
- Give employees meaningful feedback on a regular basis.
- Be clear about goals and expectations, and help employees see how their work matters to the organization.
- Reward, recognize and appreciate their employees in a fair and consistent way.
- Give employee opportunities for development.
While these requirements are true for all employees, they are even more critical for Gen X and Gen Y employees.
But think about it yourself…
- Don’t you want to feel like you’re making a meaningful contribution at work, and being valued and recognized for what you do?
- Don’t you want to continually grow and develop as a professional?
While they seem like basic requirements, fulfilling these needs for our employees can be challenging. We recently explored some practical ways you can address them in our reference article: Simple Ways to Drive Up Employee Retention.
Employee retention has become a hot topic because of all the data pointing to a growing talent shortage. But even if we weren’t in the middle of a talent crunch, these practices would make sense. They’re simple ways to get the most out of our employees and practice wise talent management.
