On the Road to SHRM

by DONNA RONAYNE | Jun 22nd, 2009 | Halogen News |

So we’ve just got a few days to go before we head off to SHRM. I’ve been meaning to drop a line about the event, but you know how busy it is getting ready for such a big show! We’ve got some great news to share at SHRM this year, and we hope you’ll drop in to see us at Booth #818 if you’re going.

A couple weeks ago, Heather discussed the idea of weisure and how employers need to adapt to the blurring lines between work and leisure. A big part of the discussion that this post didn’t really touch on is the debate around the Results Only Work Environment (ROWE).

When it comes to talent management, goals can make or break an organization. Goals have the potential to be strategic tools to gain the maximum output from the collective contributions of all individuals in an organization – if they are properly managed. Goals direct the use of time, attention, effort and resources and ensure everyone in the boat is rowing in the same direction.

The Brand for Talent blog, had a post from back in May that definitely caught my eye based on the title alone – A Life of Weisure. What is weisure you ask? Weisure is a term coined by NYU sociology professor Dalton Conley that is meant to explain the “blurring of work and play, what we do, and where we do it”, as explained by this article on CNN.com. The concept of weisure struck me as very timely given the rise of the new creative class of bloggers, and definitely raises a lot of questions around traditional concepts of work.

We’re in the planning stages for our annual user conference, which will be held this year from September 14 and 15th in Ottawa, Ontario! This will be a fun and informative event, so if you are a Halogen customer, I’d like to encourage you to take this opportunity to share your insights and shed light on how other organizations – from beginner to advanced – can maximize their use of Halogen’s leading talent management suite.
