Competency assessments are one of the most critical parts of the talent management picture, particularly in healthcare as they help verify that clinical staff have the skills needed to perform their jobs effectively and deliver quality patient care.
But to deliver on that promise, both managers and employees need to clearly understand their individual accountabilities for the competency assessment process. Without a clear understanding of this, the process is at risk of being ineffective and frustrating for all.
Ideally, employees should have ownership and control of their own competency assessments, which engages them in the process. Relieved of the responsibility for administering the process and conducting evaluations, managers can focus on being better coaches and mentors. The result is higher quality care, delivered by engaged employees, and supported by managers who create a healthy work environment.
In this complimentary webinar, Donna Wright, author of “The Ultimate Guide to Competency Assessment in Healthcare”, will provide best practices for instituting better accountability in your competency assessment program, including:
- Define employee and manager accountabilities in competency assessment.
- Discuss the overall model of accountability that makes competency assessment successful.
- Identify ways to communicate and document this accountability through the forms and tools used.
- Discuss ways to follow-up with competency deficits and identify what gets in the way.
